Excellence Awards
These awards are sponsored by the Municipal Engineering Foundation of NSW and are presented during the Awards Presentation Night at the NSW Division Annual Conference. Following are the categories that can be entered within the IPWEA Excellence Awards. An Environmental Award will be made to the overall project that best represents concern for the environment. Therefore all nominations (with the exclusion of the Road Safety category) must include a description of the manner in which environmental issues were addressed. G A Taylor MedalThis medal is presented to the best paper presented at the IPWEA - NSW Division Annual Conference. George A Taylor was a man holding a wide range of professional qualifications including those in Architecture and Engineering, who became secretary of the first Association formed for Council Engineers. George Taylor was a dynamic person and a visionary. He had set a goal that Australia should have an Association covering professional engineers in Australia. He used his position as Secretary to bring this about. This Medal was established to recognise the contribution George Taylor made to Local Government. Presenters at the NSW Division Conference are eligible for this prestigious award, which provides for the recipient to present their winning paper at another IPWEA or Association of Local Government Engineers New Zealand (ALGENZ) Conference. Presenters in the Works Officers stream will be eligible for the Peter Border Award. IPWEA MedalThis award was established in 1975 to encourage high performing students in Engineering into the local government industry. The criteria set for the award provides that the student can be either following a part time or sandwich course in Civil Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney and must be employed by a local government authority at the time of completing the course. The recipient must also have been working in local government for at least three semesters during the period of the course. The award comprises $500 cash and a medal. It has been the practice in the past to make the presentation during the Excellence Awards Dinner at the NSW Division Annual Conference. Recognition is also made at the UTS. [ Top of Page ]
New Zealand Exchange Manager ProgramOne member and a partner of a Regional Group is selected by the Management Committee as an Exchange Manager with ALGENZ. (Guidelines). [ Top of Page ]
Albert Mainerd ScholarshipThe Albert Mainerd Scholarship is awarded annually and rotated among five professional staff organisations in Local Government. For 2001, the scholarship was awarded to members of the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia. The scholarship for 2002 will be awarded to members of the Australian Institute of Environmental Health (NSW). The award is worth up to $9000 and aims to improve Local Government in NSW by enabling senior staff of councils to study Local Government overseas and/or within Australia. For more information on this award, visit the LGSA Awards Website. 2001 Albert Mainerd Scholarship Winner Daryl McGregor of Albury City Council was presented of the Albert Mainerd Scholarship at the Awards Presentation Dinner at the IPWEA NSW Division Conference.
